Artistic Director

SUMMARY

Capital Harmonia is seeking a creative and passionate choral conductor to lead the choir in our unique mission of supporting women through music. The Artistic Director reports to the Board of Director and is responsible for the artistic leadership of the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Reports to the Board of Directors
• Selecting and submitting repertoire to the Board for its approval; including annual women’s choral festival
• Conducting weekly rehearsals of approximately two hours in duration from September to December; and January to May at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fairfax in Oakton, VA.
• Conducting 6-8 performances a year.
• Any absences shall be coordinated with the President of the Board and substitutes arranged for if needed.
• Work in collaboration with the Board of Directors to identify and connect with potential partner organizations
• Hire and supervise accompanist
• Hire other instrumentalists as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of bachelor’s degree in music
• Strong understanding of proper vocal technique
• Minimum of 3 years of choral conducting experience
• Interest in the mission of Capital Harmonia
• Knowledge of music for women’s voices and especially that composed by women
• Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills

HOURS AND COMPENSATION

• Part-time position with weekly rehearsal and additional time for performances and planning.
• Honorarium of $2000 annually with bonus potential
