One Voice is the LGBTQIA+ and allies chorus of Charlotte. Through artistic excellence, One Voice Chorus works to increase understanding and acceptance of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and asexual people. Our achievement in choral music enables us to reach diverse groups to overcome misperceptions, and to grow personally, both as performers and as leaders in our community.

One Voice Chorus has been on an incredible journey of growth, becoming a vibrant and respected presence in both the LGBTQ+ and arts communities across the Southeast. As we close out our milestone 35th season, we are filled with pride—and deep gratitude for the dedicated leadership of our current Executive Director, whose passion and vision have helped shape this moment.

Building on that strong foundation, we’re thrilled to launch the search for our first full-time Executive Director to guide OVC into its next chapter.

We’re looking for a compassionate, mission-driven leader who believes in the power of choral music to create connection and foster belonging. The ideal candidate will be aligned with our values, nurture a culture of inclusion, and steward the organization’s growth with care—both operationally and financially.

The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors, through the Board President, and partners closely with the Artistic Director to lead the chorus forward with purpose, heart, and harmony.

  • 3-5+ years of progressive leadership experience in a nonprofit organization, preferably in arts, culture, LGBTQIA+ advocacy, or education.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement strategic plans aligned with organizational mission and values.
  • Demonstrated success in managing staff, volunteers, or creative teams with empathy, equity, and inclusion.
  • Experience working with or reporting to a Board of Directors and engaging stakeholders in organizational development.
  • Attend all meetings of the executive committee and full board
  • Assist the president in developing and processing of agendas for the executive committee and board meetings
  • Prepare written reports for presentation to the executive committee and board
  • Assist in identifying and attracting potential new board members
  • Track record of successful development strategies, including donor cultivation, grant writing, sponsorships, and crowdfunding.
  • Proven ability to plan and execute a variety of fundraising events and community initiatives that showcase OVC and our queer community.
  • Experience in creating and managing budgets for organizations under $500k annually.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit finance, including bookkeeping, reporting, audits, and compliance.
  • Experience with branding, public relations, and digital marketing (email, website, social media).
  • Comfortable being a public-facing leader representing the organization to community partners, donors, and media.
  • Deep understanding of LGBTQIA+ communities and cultural competency in communicating across diverse groups.
  • Passion for arts administration.
  • Ability to organize to remain highly organized with all assigned tasks and projects.
  • Deep commitment to LGBTQIA+ equity and inclusion.
  • Collaborative leadership style that inspires trust, fosters creativity, and centers community voices.
  • Flexible, resourceful, and capable of working independently in a small-staff environment.
  • Flexible availability to attend performances, meetings, fundraisers, donor events, and community gatherings to support outreach and partnership development.

$45,000-$48,000 DOE
Full-time position – 1099 Contractor

Additional information:

  • This role does not include healthcare benefits.
  • This role is eligible for an annual bonus based on the financial resources the organization has at the end of each fiscal year.
