The Singers’ Club of Cleveland, a men’s chorus and 501(c)3 non-profit
organization, seeks an Artistic Director. Established in 1891, The Singers’
Club has a long and rich history of presenting music for men's voices.

Time commitment
The part-time position involves Tuesday evening rehearsals, preparation of a
three-concert season, and time for planning future performances. Expected
weekly commitment is 8-10 hours. Artistic Director pay range: $15,000-
18,000 annually.

Duties and responsibilities
The Artistic Director will lead the Club’s rehearsals and choral performances.
The Artistic Director will bring positive energy that will help the Club grow
the chorus and expand its audience.
The Artistic Director will report to the Club’s board of directors and
collaborate with its Executive Director and working committees.
The Club will provide an assistant to support the Artistic Director and an
accompanist at rehearsals and performances.

Artistic expectations
Artistic expectations of the Director include preparing the chorus for its
performances and directing those performances; designing concert themes
and choosing repertoire; holding auditions for potential new members;
writing notes for concert programs; utilizing the Club’s extensive library of
men’s choral music; evaluating performance venues.

Communications
Artistic Director will be invited to attend Board meetings from time to time
and will have regular contact with Executive Director and finance, concert,
membership and publicity committees.

Public Relations
The Artistic director may be asked to represent the organization with media
sources and assist with marketing efforts that advance the brand of the
Singers’ Club.

Financial expectations
The Artistic Director will be expected to work with the board of directors to
create budgets for performances, and follow spending guidelines outlined in
those budgets. Artistic director may be asked to support grant writing
efforts by providing information needed in applications.

Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in music is required, and higher degree is
preferred. Candidates should be able to demonstrate competency with
directing a TTBB chorus. We’d prefer a minimum of three years of experience
in choral and instrumental conducting.  We’ll look for strong leadership,
communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to meet schedules,
timelines and budgets.

Typical schedule
Weekly 2-hour chorus rehearsals extend from September through May. A
typical season will have a holiday, late winter and spring program. Second
performances in different geographic areas are likely as an audience
development effort.
