Thomas Circle Singers (TCS) seeks a part-time Operations Manager responsible for administration and concert production of the choir. Working closely with the Artistic Director and reporting to the Board of Directors, the Operations Manager will further the choir’s vision of a future where choral singing is a vibrant part of a just and equitable society.

This position offers a high degree of flexibility and an opportunity to develop a diverse set of skills. Most work can be done fully remotely during flexible hours, though there are several days each year where in-person attendance is required (e.g. concert days, annual auditions). This position is ideal for a working singer, artist, or other professional looking for supplemental income, an accommodating schedule, and the chance to build business acumen.

Objectives of this Role

  • Provide fiscal, logistical, operational, and other administrative support
  • Prepare marketing and promotion materials to increase visibility, credibility, and develop strategic partnerships to further increase community awareness and engagement

Responsibilities

Oversee daily operations of the organization, including:

  • Manage TCS email as primary point of contact
  • Maintain files
  • Pay bills and vendors, and coordinate with the bookkeeper to prepare weekly deposits and monthly financial reports
  • Maintain TCS data and produce reports
  • Order supplies
  • Coordinate with the landlord, outside vendors, and volunteers as needed

Manage community and promotional activities for the chorus, including concert production:

  • Assist the Artistic Director with audition scheduling, concert venue research, and contacts
  • Coordinate with vendors
  • Serve as the main customer service contact for ticket sales
  • Assist with volunteer recruitment
  • Participate in and work with volunteers and board on fundraising events
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors and Artistic Director to prepare administrative reports for monthly board meetings
  • Support external communications, including website; prepare marketing and promotional materials; support TCS’ social media presence

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or commensurate work experience in administrative or operational roles
  • Commitment to TCS’ values (see below) and dual mission of artistic excellence and social impact
  • Residence in the greater Washington, DC area
  • Experience in concert production a plus
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to furthering the access, diversity, equity, and inclusion (ADEI) work of the ensemble

Compensation: Starting at $30/hour
Hours: Approximately 10 hours/week.

This is an approximately quarter-time position with weekly hours that increase and decrease at various times during the year. This position is hybrid. Attendance at all concerts (typically three per year), fundraising events, and monthly board meetings is required (minimal evening and weekend hours involved).

About Us: Established in 1976, The Thomas Circle Singers (TCS) is a welcoming and inclusive choral ensemble committed to enriching the musical life of the Washington, DC region through engaging and impactful performances, as well as partnerships with DC-based social service organizations. TCS is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that has a mix of funding from grants, donors, and ticket sales. Additionally, for almost five decades, TCS concerts have raised funds and awareness for nonprofit organizations that provide diverse and enriching services to communities within Washington, DC, raising over $250,000 for many notable and important causes.

Comprised of more than 40 member singers, many of whom have been members for over a decade, TCS is a SATB auditioned choir that rehearses and performs from September through May, and presents acclaimed performances of diverse choral literature spanning the Renaissance to contemporary repertoires. World premieres of TCS-commissioned works include Robert Convery’s Glory to the Child, Gwyneth Walker’s A Heart in Hiding – the Passionate Love Poems of Emily Dickinson, and Blake Henson’s August Moonrise. In May 2024 the Singers performed the world premiere of a choral work by composer Arianne Abela and poet Ruthie Prillaman, commissioned by TCS’ James Kreger Fund for New Music.
