Artistic Director

Cantus Novus, an elite, auditioned chamber choir dedicated to the pursuit of musical excellence in the Bucks County area is seeking candidates for the position of Artistic Director. 

The ideal candidate will have 4-6 years experience leading community-based choral ensembles or equivalent including management of auditions, repertoire selection/programming, and rehearsal planning. A minimum of a Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting is expected.

The Artistic Director reports directly to the CN Board of Directors.

Job Description

• Provide overall artistic leadership and direction to CN at regular rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and performances.
• Audition new members with assistance from the CN Membership Chairman.
• Choose CN repertoire and develop programming at a time agreed upon by the CN Board.
• Select and hire non-CN instrumentalists as needed for programming, within budgetary limits.
• Review existing concert and rehearsal venues and recommend changes/additions as needed. Determine singer and instrumentalist setup within respective venues.
• Participate and assist the CN Board in the budget process.
• Attend CN Board and general meetings as necessary to present and discuss recommendations for future programs/projects and to report on any programs/projects underway at the time of any such meeting.
• Represent CN at choral conferences as feasible, and at the discretion of the CN Board.
• Assist the CN Board in developing and implementing CN policies and future direction including choral conferences, CN tours, and recording projects.
• Assist the CN Board in identifying and recruiting excellent singers for potential CN membership.
• Assist the CN Board in fundraising and developmental activities.
• Assist the CN Board in achieving its mission, vision, and strategic objectives.
• Contract is renewable pending performance review. Multi-year contract negotiated after first full year. Salary is commensurate with experience and is based on each concert season.
