Position Type: Part-Time, Contract
Compensation: $20,000 to $22,500 per season, commensurate with experience and education  Preferred Start Date: Mid to late summer 2026

Position Summary

The Artistic Director serves as the creative and administrative leader of the ensemble, responsible for shaping the artistic vision while ensuring smooth operational execution. This individual will inspire singers, cultivate audience growth, and maintain the choir’s reputation for musical excellence.

About Us

Topeka Festival Singers is a 40 to 45-voice, auditioned adult choir committed to artistic excellence and engaging performances. Now in our 42nd season, we present four very high-quality concerts annually, with occasional additional performances and community engagements. Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular rehearsals and concert performances
  • Develop a season of diverse and engaging repertoire
  • Audition and select singers to maintain ensemble excellence
  • Consult with the Board of Directors and artistic partners
  • Serve as a community ambassador for the TFS organization
  • Maintain and manage the ensemble’s music library
  • Perform administrative duties such as reserving performance hall, securing instrumentalists, providing information for concert program booklets, etc.

 

Qualifications:

  • Strong choral conducting and programming experience
  • Extensive experience working with choirs in all musical genres with an emphasis on classical music training and performance
  • Passion for artistic excellence and inclusive music-making
  • Outstanding leadership and communications skills
  • Undergraduate degree or higher in music field

Time Commitment:

  • 4 concerts per season, plus occasional additional performances
  • 7–8 rehearsals per concert
  • Additional time for planning, auditions, and administrative duties
