Artistic/Music Director (Part-Time)
The Berkeley Community Chorus (BCC), situated in Martinsburg, West Virginia, is seeking an
inspiring, dynamic Community Chorus Director to lead our singers. You will shape our artistic
vision, develop engaging seasonal repertoires, and conduct high-quality rehearsals. If you have a

Position Overview
The Artistic/Music Director will serve as the musical heart of our organization. You will manage
the artistic budget in collaboration with the BCC’s board, develop engaging seasons, and elevate
our singers’ talents through high-skill rehearsal management and vocal pedagogy.
Qualifications & Requirements
● Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree strongly preferred in Music
Performance or Music Education.
● Experience Preference: Significant background leading community, high school, or
collegiate choral ensembles.
● Skills: Demonstrated ability to conduct masterworks and popular arrangements, teach
group vocal pedagogy, and arrange or program accessible music.
Core Responsibilities
● Programming & Selection: Researching, compiling, and obtaining sheet music for
engaging and diverse concert seasons.
● Rehearsals & Auditions: Holding two seasonal auditions and conducting weekly 2 hour
rehearsals across two 10-week performance cycles. Each cycle includes one dress
rehearsal and one concert, though additional concerts may be added as opportunities
arise.
● Performance Production: Managing concert logistics, coordinating venues, and
collaborating with guest artists and instrumentalists. Selecting and overseeing an
accompanist as needed.
● Board Collaboration: Serving as an ex-officio board member to manage the artistic
budget and align our musical vision with the chorus's mission.
● Community Relations: Serving as the musical ambassador of the chorus by maintaining
professional relationships with local universities, conservatories, conductors, and
community-based music groups.

● Pay: Stipend-based pay scaled to the two 10-week performance blocks (negotiable).
